The North Miami Police Department’s “Officer of the Month” for September 2014 is Rudolph Petithomme. Detective Petithomme has been with the North Miami Police Department for seven years and is currently assigned to the Investigative Section. Detective Petithomme is being recognized for his exuberant work and dedication to the City of North Miami Police Department.
He was nominated by Sergeant James Mesidor for the following cases: On Wednesday, August 6th, 2014, Detective Petithomme, along with members of the C.S.U., conducted a proactive patrol in the vicinity of Zones 1&2, commonly known as the “West Side”. At approximately 2:50 pm, Miami-Dade Police communications administered a “Be On The Look-Out” (B.O.L.O) for a silver Nissan Maxima that was recently involved in a strong armed robbery out of a Miami-Dade Police Department (Intercoastal) district. Despite the offense occurring in Miami-Dade’s jurisdiction, Detective Petithomme’s intuitiveness led him to strategically place himself along the “West Side” borders in an effort to locate the vehicle. During the course of such act, Detective Petithomme subsequently pursued the vehicle as the subjects attempted to flee and elude police. Detective Petithomme then assisted several other agencies with the establishment of a police perimeter. As a result, the two violent offenders were quickly apprehended for several charges, which include, Strong Armed Robbery and Grand Theft Auto.
On Thursday, August 14, at approximately 12:29 pm, while working saturated patrol, Detective Petithomme conducted a routine tag check of a white Nissan Maxima in traffic. A records check of the tag revealed that the vehicle was recently reported stolen out of Miami-Dade’s jurisdiction. Detective Petithomme coordinated a stop of the vehicle with other members of the C.S.U. and placed two subjects into custody without incident. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle was an overdue or unreturned rental from a local agency. Overdue or unreturned vehicle rentals are commonly used by gang members or their associates as instrumentalities for various crimes such as organized fraud and violent crimes.
Detective Petithomme’s proactive approach and intuitiveness led to the arrest of several violent offenders, which prevented others from being victimized.
Detective Rudolph Petithomme was chosen as Officer of the Month for September 2014 and will be honored at the Greater North Miami Chamber of Commerce luncheon, held quarterly at the Miami Shores Country Club, Wednesday, October 22nd, 2014 at noon.
